Cycling for a Greener Future in Mumbai

Firefox ViperThere is nothing greener, than cycling. Not only does it help the environment by releasing no pollution, it provides much needed exercise for the body, especially for a person like me who sits at home most of the time.

Most of us want to go out to buy a cycle and getting back to a market we have long forgotten, how do you make the right choices? What cycle should I buy? Do I need gears? Well all these questions popped up in my head.

I was going through Firefox cycles for a good part of my time, taking a look at all these cycles with alloy frames and gears, show absorbers on both sides, but the prices from Rs 6,00 to Rs 16,000 definitely were not appealing to me.

For all those who want to pick up a Firefox cycle you should read people's experiences with Firefox's after sales service. You may also be interested in Hero's Octane series that has similar cycles but at a much lesser cost.

Hercules ThrillerIt may sound unbelievable for many, but a normal cycle a mountain terrain bike, without shock absorbers or gears is now priced at Rs 3,300 this is what I payed for my Hercules Thriller three months ago. Its quite heavy but seems extremely strong and sturdy.

I wanted to buy a cycle with gears, but unsure about how long I would manage cycling I decided to buy the most basic one. Since I am quite strong, the weight of the cycle does not bother me, I carry the cycle up and down three floors every time.

Although at the moment the rainy season has dampened my cycling mood, but every time I use it as compared to my motor cycle I feel my spirit uplifted. The only thing I really find disappointing is the lack of a cycle lane in Mumbai, when we desperately need one!
