Auroville the quite hamlet in Pondicherry not to long ago had a rally to emphasis the need for us to take action towards climate change by organizing an electric car rally.

Electric vehicles are the future when you look at the current state of the environment, so kick starting this movement on environment friendly transportation were a convoy of electric cars, electric bikes, electric scooters and electric rickshaws as well!

The rally kicked off from Auroville's Solar kitchen and passed through major landmarks in the town like Darkarli, Savitri Bhavan and Aurodam. Luigi Zanzi, L'avenir d'Auroville, an organizer, said, "The response has been terrific. There’s been so much enthusiasm. What started as a little movement on environment-friendly transportation has gained momentum. We propose to make the event an annual feature."

Apart from the participants, Indian electric vehicle manufacturers displayed their products ranging from scooters to cars. The company EVfuture that has a manufacturing unit churning out electric cycles and motorcycles.

The company has launched trial versions of 15 different types of electric motorcycles and 30 electric cycles, most of their clients participated in the rally as well.

Although most of the participants were from Auroville there were some from neighbouring states as well, it sure does look like a lot of fun, hope we see more initiatives like these across the country to help spread Green Wheels in India!
