The Honda Civic HybridThe Honda Civic was launched early this June at a price tag of 21.5 lakhs, the hefty price tag saw the company selling only 60 units across the country in a time frame of a couple of months.

This forced the company to reconsider their pricing strategy to get rid of the existing stock that was imported from Japan as a Complete Build-up Unit (CBU), thus attracting an import tax of 114% by the Government of India.

It's sad that the government has failed to be proactive in terms of helping bringing greener technology to a country where the pollution limits are out of control.

Honda then lowers the price by an unbelievable 8 lakhs dropping the price tag down to approximately 13.5 lakhs. This price drop saw a surge of people opting to buy the Hybrid with over 265 cars sold in two weeks time. But if you never bought your Civic Hybrid in India during this time frame the bad news is that there are no more available.

The company plans on importing the next batch only by March 2009. As compared to the fuel cost of a Regular Civic to Rs 2,52,631 for a distance of 48,000 kms in 3 years with a mileage of 9.5, the Hybrid Civic would cost Rs 1,92,000 with a mileage of 12.5 a fuel price of Rs 50 kept in mind. The Civic Hybrid would help you save more than Rs 60,000 in a span of three years.

The car comes with a 4 year or 80,000km maintenance plan that covers everything including the cost of labor and parts so you don't spend a dime apart from fuel. It has 6 airbags and according to many sites the battery of the car lasts an entire lifetime.

An autocar test states it's only 1.5 seconds slow to the ton than the 1.8 Auto in the 0-100km/hr run but its faster than the 1.8 auto in the 20-80km/hr run. Although cars with auto gears are comparably much slower than cars with a manual gearshift. Is the Civic Hybrid for you? Well if you can afford it, there’s a long wait but definitely worth it for the a better future.
